Special guest at the 5th partner meeting of the ReCo project: the bisons!
On 18 March 2025, the ReCo project partners met for the fifth time at the project’s 5th partner meeting. The host Green Federation ‘GAIA’ invited the partners to the northern Polish port city Szczecin. On the first day of the event, the project partners met and discussed the plans for the implementation of the final project activities. On the second day, the project partners visited the West Pomeranian Nature Society near Jablonowo, where they were able to see the bison and other animals that are at home there. Bisons are also at the centre of the pilot action being carried out by the NGO ‘GAIA’ as part of the ReCo project. In the project, the organisation is implementing renaturation measures that focus on improving the bison’s migration routes. To this end, innovative GPS collars are used to monitor the movements and behaviour of the bison and subsequently elaborate enhancement strategies, which include careful breeding programmes, habitat management, and initiatives for natural herd diversification. This made it all the more interesting for the project partners to meet the fluffy stars of the pilot programmes in person!
