VODAMIN: Pit water as resource and threat in former mining areas
The project with 4 partners from Czech Republic and Germany addresses the problem of interventions in the natural water regime in regions heavily influenced by mining activities in the Saxon-Czech border area. Besides the monitoring and analysis of the hydrological and ecological situation in the mining areas Oelsnitz/Lugau, East Saxony and Bohemia also concrete methods for the remediation of contaminated heap leakage water and pit water in brown and hard coal mining should be tested. The project aims at the implementation of the Water Framework Directive of the EU to develop offers for the rising demands concerning the water consumption of gray- and fresh water as well as to react early to the climate change in the Saxon-Czech border-area.
