Climate Adaptation Project approved
In August 2019 the state-owned company Sachsenforst, Pirna got the final approval of the ArchaeoForest project which was developed together with core-consult. Other partners of this project are in addition to the state-owned enterprise SachsenForst, Pirna, the State Office for Archeology, Dresden and the University of Greifswald with the working group Landscape Ecology and Ecosystem Dynamics under Prof. dr. Wilmking. In intensive collaboration between archaeologists, foresters, forestry scientists as well as landscape ecologists and botanists based on high-medieval woods of the Ore Mountains, the original vegetation of the Ore Mountains is to be determined shortly before the massive human intervention in the context of the 1st mountain shrine, mid-12th century, since the then prevailing climatic conditions are similar to the future expected climate parameters. The aim is to derive future long-term management recommendations for forestry in the Ore Mountains in view of increasingly noticeable effects of climate change and the integration of appropriate recommendations in guidelines for long-term forest conversion to secure the diverse tasks and functions of the forest for society (keyword: ecosystem services). core-consult supports the partners in the three-year project period in matters of funds in the project.
